As geopolitical tensions reshape global trade routes, maritime law continues to evolve in response to new strategic realities.

This session will examine the legal and regulatory challenges arising from increased activity in Arctic waters, with a particular focus on Greenland’s position within these developments.

Speakers

Peter Appel – Partner, Gorrissen Federspiel

Peter Appel heads the Shipping, Offshore and Transportation practice group at Gorrissen Federspiel and is a trusted adviser to a wide range of Danish and international shipping companies. He brings deep sector knowledge across maritime law, infrastructure development, and transport projects, including ferry services, ports, and rail.

Peter has extensive experience advising on Greenland-related matters and Arctic operations, making him particularly well placed to speak on the legal and geopolitical dynamics shaping the region today. He also maintains a strong international profile, including serving as former Chair of the International Bar Association’s Maritime and Transport Law Committee.

Johan Casper Hennings – Partner, Gorrissen Federspiel

Johan Casper Hennings is a partner in the Shipping, Offshore and Transportation practice group at Gorrissen Federspiel. He specialises in maritime project work and transactional shipping and offshore matters, advising clients on complex, cross-border legal and commercial arrangements.

Johan is known for his pragmatic and commercially focused approach, helping clients navigate technically challenging issues in an evolving global shipping landscape. His work spans a broad range of maritime sectors, including offshore energy and infrastructure, with increasing relevance to Arctic operations and emerging geopolitical considerations.

Thomas Edelgaard Christensen – Managing Counsel – Partner, Gorrissen Federspiel

Thomas Edelgaard Christensen is a Managing Counsel in the Shipping, Offshore and Transportation practice at Gorrissen Federspiel. He advises clients on a broad range of maritime and offshore matters, including complex legal and commercial issues arising in shipping and related sectors.
